How a Family Vacation Turned Into Moving to Oregon
Updated: 2 hours ago
In 2020, Trent and I got back together, after being divorced for 12 years. We bought a new home and started building our life again. I thought we'd stay put for a while.
I was wrong.
In 2022, the four of us took a family vacation to Whitefish, Montana. Since we were already out west, we decided to take a few extra days and drive over to Oregon because our daughter, Brooklynn, had always wanted to see Oregon.
We absolutely fell in love with everything there and we talked about how cool it would be to live there.
When we got back home, something funny happened. Without anyone really saying it out loud, the kids started packing up their rooms. Trent and I looked at each other and laughed. "Well," we said, "I guess we're moving to Oregon."
And we did!!! We sold our house, loaded everything up, said goodbye to our families and moved halfway across the country. We rented a home, in Albany, for a year that we had only seen online. It was a beautiful home built in 1920. Looking back, it was a little crazy. But it was one of the best decisions we ever made.
That year in Oregon was everything we hoped it would be. We loved every minute of it. The weather was amazing, the land is beautiful. The best hiking and we were only and hour away from the Pacific Ocean....that we went to often. I am an ocean girl.
Then life started shifting again. Our daughter left for college, and our lease was coming to an end. With the nest getting smaller, Trent and I had an idea. What if we didn't sign another lease or buy a home? What if we bought an RV and traveled the country instead?
It sounded like the adventure of a lifetime.
It did not work out like we thought.
To be continued...
